Has anyone here watched Life (2018) with Lee Dong-Wook?

Main Post:

I am currently on episode 2 and find it engaging so far. I tried to search for discussions on here, but couldn't find any. I just wondered if anyone saw it, and their overall thoughts?

Top Comment: I really liked this one. I never thought I'd be so invested in questions of hospital administration, that's for sure. The cast is great, and I thought the conflicts were realistic and subtle with no cartoony bad guys, even the CEO. I'm a huge Cho Seung Woo fan as well as Lee Dong Wook, so I could be a little biased. Thought it was definitely worth a watch, but it's a slow burn, so be prepared.

if ki existed in real life how would it work

Main Post:

i think it would be able to manipulate electrons without bounds cuz that would explain how an energy ball in the show can destroy planets, but what do you think

Top Comment: Ki does exist in real life. You just haven't screamed loud enough.

How would you try your hand at developing DBZ KI?

Main Post:

Basically what i said in the title. Ki is somewhat interesting but too vague and (what is the real problem to me) not enough developed in the worldbuilding.

Aliens, gods and angels have ki, no one never explains where it came from, not a change in the evolution of species/technology. While it also lends to cool fights it is way to lenient on simply letting things just be used once and never again with no reason.

Remember that Goku can read minds and download info from peoples heads? That (this one is filler i think tbh) a cell junior controled other people ́s techniques (implying that they can control all ki and not only theirs) well neither do the Z fighters tbh

Top Comment: Ki in DB seems to be similar to chakra in Naruto in that it seems to be reducible to two types of energy, mental energy and physical energy. As for where it came from it's just apart of every living being, since it's life energy. My friend would say that ki is similar to telekinesis and that's why the Cell Junior could control Vegeta blast. Goku reading minds might be an advanced application of ki sensing, which allows one to sense emotional content through the opponents ki.

Theory of how Ki works

Main Post:

Okay so we know Ki is extremely vague especially since we rarely see something new visually in a fight while almost as often seeing something dumb like a bullet injuring Goku or Goku being electrocuted. Below I have done my best to make sense of Ki using all canon materials but will only be using the manga for proof since I find that to be closer to what the creators vision is and it won’t lead to ransoms screaming about filler like King Vegeta waving away planets.

Ki in the Dragon Ball universe is a fundamental life force energy that is the essence of all living beings. It's a mysterious energy that can be harnessed and manipulated by all sentient life forms.

Due to the existence of laser weapons being owned by Sayians along with the lack of Ki sensing by a majority of species in the universe it’s clear most cannot control Ki. It is also clear that some naturally access Ki for defense and offense such as Goku shrugging off being shot by Bulma. I say this because in super bullets do actually injure a much stronger Goku meaning he likely didn’t have is Ki 100% active for defense meaning Sayians are not bullet proof but can innately turn on their Ki for defense.

Ki can be generated and controlled by an individual through natural talent, training, and discipline. The process of gathering and focusing one's Ki is a central aspect of martial arts in the Dragon Ball world. It's through this process that fighters can enhance their physical abilities, fly, shoot energy blasts, and perform a variety of superhuman feats.

It is clear that such feats are stronger than we typically see due to characters not trying to destroy planets. However the notion of power levels being something that we can measure is a fool’s errand due to the original comedic nature of Dragon Ball showing master Roshi blowing up the moon. Where as later in the series characters are afraid of people blowing up planets despite the fact that characters should already be able to do that. Speaking of which going by the Manga it is clear Vegeta from the Sayian sage was not a planet buster in his none transformed state since he lies saying he is the strongest being in the universe just before giving the statement that he could do so making it difficult to take that statement as true.

Ki is also seen to not protect those who use it from poison or other outside forces without specifically making a barrier to protect against it though why it’s not used constantly is unknown. Additionally fire, electricity, water, air, and physical materials can pass through Ki as shown throughout the manga.

God Ki is just Ki that cannot be sensed without godly Ki or knowledge (slightly unclear here)

Top Comment: I mean... it's just this.
